The LaCour Trio

NATCHITOCHES, LA – The Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne and The Oxford American magazine designated 2013 as the official ‘Year of Music’ in Louisiana. To kick off this year-long celebration, the Office of Tourism has partnered with The Oxford American's 14th Annual Southern Music issue focused exclusively on the music of Louisiana. 

On March 2, 2013, the tour stops in Natchitoches with a Zydeco concert entitled RAISING CANE: A Musical Tour in Creole Country. All events on the campus of Northwestern State University in Natchitoches.

3-4:30 PM at Ora G Williams Media Center in Keyser Hall, Panel discussion: Preserving Our Musical Heritage featuring Oxford American Louisiana Music issue guest editor Alex Rawls; Ron Yule, fiddle scholar; Dr. Lisa Abney, NSU; Rick Adams of Rev. Charley’s Patent Medicine Show.

5-5:45 PM: at Ora G Williams Media Center in Keyser Hall. Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne and BPAmerica Present: Sunshine By The Stars: Celebrating Louisiana Music. A film starring Harry Connick, Jr., and featuring The Marsalis Family, Better Than Ezra, Tim McGraw, Rebirth Brass Band, Trombone Shorty, Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Guy, Buckwheat Zydeco, Irma Thomas, Zachary Richard, Zion Harmonizers, MickeyGilley.

8 pm: Live music concert at Magale Recital Hall featuring opening act The LaCour Trio and Goldman Thibodeaux – old school Cajun/Creole musician and a Jazz Fest regular as headliner.
